Toys ‘R’ Us Rises from the Grave, Reborn in AI Flesh

OpenAI Claims Victory: Sora, “The AI-Generated Content Monster”
———————————————–

It’s almost as if the hype surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) had reached epic proportions. The once-millennial dream has finally merged with the 80s-esque nostalgia of Toys “R” Us’ brand revival. This time around, the unlikely hero is OpenAI’s Sora platform, which has just been used by… well, who would have anticipated this? WHP Global. Yes, the very same Brand Management Firm responsible for Toying with Macy’s and transforming their stores into makeshift toy sections only to leave them utterly under-whelming.

The Story of Sora: A Descent Down the Rabbit Hole
———————————————-

Recently, OpenAI pitched Sora to Hollywood, and as expected (or not?), the spotlight shifted to WHP Global this time around. WHP jumped at the opportunity, capitalizing off the Toys “R” Us brand licensed to Macy’s stores without the grandeur of fully-fledged toy warehouses… or the excitement. The verdict? Sora, the allegedly AI-generated content, takes center-stage in this new narrative. Who knew Nik Kleverov, the fearless director, would have had “12 people” working alongside Sora, correcting VFX and tweaking bits? That’s roughly 80%, if you were counting.

The Game-Changer? Native Foreign’s “Corrective VFX”
———————————————–

Native Foreign, the creative agency responsible for revamping the Toys “R” Us film, didn’t bother to claim perfection. They applied “incorrect” VFX (read ’em and weep as the tears flow) to save the day. Why? One could argue Sora came close, but there’s space for improvement (read AI-generated content for the naive). In hindsight, it didn’t take a genius to realize you’d need an army fighting on the front lines to protect this fragile AI-monster dubbed Sora.

Typos and the Fate of Sora
————————-

For those who didn’t see the light-of-day, Sora’s “crowning achievement” came in three acts: (1) a sign with typos; (2), a bicycle repair shop that doubled into the final corrected clip;

What’s the future for Toying with AI? Or will it succumb (and die?) under
the weight of expectation? (Source: Twitter)
