Customers always have ridiculous demands, and oftentimes, the waitstaff will capitulate to them. When a diner only wants 3 ice cubes, or somehow wants her steak well-done but also totally red inside, or wants to make a bunch of random substitutions, the waiter will usually accommodate these silly requests with a smile. Since they’re relying so heavily on tips, it behooves the waiters to just do whatever their customers demand, even when it’s rather inconvenient.
Still, there’s nothing worse than starting your closing duties, knowing you’ll be locking those front restaurant doors in 10 minutes, only for a party to waltz in looking for a hot meal. Ugh! Instead of mopping floors, the waiters are now rushing back and forth to accommodate one last table of people. Just because a restaurant closes at 10 doesn’t necessarily mean you can order at 9:52. If you’re really nice, and you promise to take your food to go, and you tip extra, I guess you can get away with it. But don’t make it a habit! You’re upsetting the waiters!
