The new boss did not appreciate the fact that the author frequently asked for directives to be written down and not just verbally communicated. First of all, most employees would ask for this to be done as well, so that they would have something to refer to when completing their work correctly. However, the author also has a hearing disorder and did not want to make mistakes by misinterpreting what was being said in meetings.
Another coworker, whom the author refers to as Tenny because she is also the school’s tennis coach, had a problem with the author’s hearing issue. She even went so far as to use her knowledge of this vulnerability to her advantage in order to argue that she was more qualified for his leadership position than he was. The problem was that she actually proved to completely incapable of doing that data analysis with half the level of the author’s precision.
We understand the nature of competition in the workplace, but exploiting a coworker’s vulnerability for your own gain is a dangerous and frankly fireable offense. On top of that, it sounds like Tenny was completely in over her head anyway.
