If you mess up while making a new recipe, don’t blame the messenger!

How do you go about making your meals? Do you rely on physical cookbooks? Do you get family recipes handed down from your parents? Or, like a lot of us, do you go to Google and search something like, “chicken and potatoes easy,” and click the first 5-star recipe that pops up?

For a lot of us, our dinners will be cobbled together with whatever ingredients we already have on hand. It’s easy — type all those ingredients into Google, and find something that you have all the ingredients for and at least half of the spices required. It might not taste that good… but it’s worth a try.

If you’re hesitant about trying the recipe, you can always scroll down to the reviews and see what they suggest. Sometimes, people do offer up really good information, like noting that you should all less salt or an extra egg. But sometimes, as you will see below, people are just being goofy in the comments. They’re trying to blame the recipe’s author for things that are entirely out of the author’s control. While the authors are often justifiably peeved by this kind of commenter, it makes for a hilarious read! Plus, in some cases, the authors snapped back at their 1-star reviewers, telling them exactly why their meal turned out to be a big pile of mush.

My favorites among these are the people who puffed out their chests and wrote a paragraph to the author detailing all of their ill-advised substitutions. Then, the authors gently scold them, because truly, what did they think was going to happen when they substituted carrots for peaches… in a peach ice cream recipe?

Other people blamed the author for the fact that they made the recipe at all! Like bro, if you don’t think a recipe is heart-healthy, you can’t just make that dish, then blame the author because you clogged your own arteries. Just remember these people the next time you’re searching for a recipe! If you can only find one with like, 4.5 stars, you know why — it’s because there’s at least one person in the comments who substituted tofu for steak, and needs someone to blame besides themselves.
