No one wants to feel like their efforts can be taken for granted in the workplace. This coworker clearly could not interpret what was happening from the employee’s perspective. After all, the employee worked hard on that template, and it was specifically tailored to how he likes to get things done. It might not have even made any sense to the coworker. 

Still, just because he refused to share his template does not negate the fact that the employee went out of his way to contribute to the coworker’s presentation. He deserved credit for helping him out, but instead, his contributions were entirely ignored. That’s not how you form a lasting and healthy relationship with coworkers. The new guy may be naive, but he should know what he’s risking by making an enemy in the office so early in his professional career. That will surely backfire!
