TV VIGILANTE OR MURDER ON CAMERA? Politician’s Drug Bust Show Ends in Bloodshed

A local TV show filming a “drug bust” has ended with a man shot dead, sparking fury and a major police murder investigation. This wasn’t just a crime scene—it was a production set.

Johannesburg authorities are scrambling to distance themselves from the bloodshed after ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Councillor Xolani Khumalo, filmed his Moja Love show Sizokthola during an operation that left an alleged Nigerian drug dealer dead. Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed the murder case, stating shots were fired “allegedly by the production team’s security.”

City leaders are now in full DAMAGE CONTROL. Johannesburg Public Safety MMC Dr Mgcini Tshwaku has slammed “misleading reports,” insisting the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) had NO prior knowledge and only arrived as backup when the outraged community revolted. His spokesperson issued a blistering warning to media: “Get your facts straight before going public.”

But the politician at the heart of the storm isn’t backing down. Khumalo DEFENDS the use of lethal force, framing it as a necessary war against drug syndicates that “terrorise our communities.” He claims they faced “violent resistance,” turning a TV production into a deadly confrontation.

This is a DANGEROUS new precedent. A political candidate mixes campaign messaging with reality-TV policing, and a man ends up dead. Who gave the order to fire? Who approved this armed spectacle? The police are “investigating,” but the show’s narrative is already being written by its star.

When justice becomes a ratings stunt, the next body on the ground could be anyone’s.
