Of course, not everyone is going to love every piece of art, since it’s subjective. But this customer tried to get their money back in a rather unsubtle way!

Chargebacks really hurt businesses, and you should avoid doing that at all costs, if you can. Unless the chargeback is really defensible, like the artist waits 8 months to ship your art, or the art is far from the quality that was advertised, just don’t do that!

Communication also goes a long way. A lot of artists aim to please! They love when other people connect with their drawings, sculptures, or paintings. So if you dislike something about it, a nice thing to do would be to politely explain this to the artist, giving them an actionable way to improve it. You could offer to pay the shipping fee to send it back to them to fix, say, the way your friend’s arm looks in the painting, or the color of the background shading. Whatever it may be, the artist will be far more receptive to your request if you ask before doing the dreaded chargeback.
