Keeping records of your salary and working hours is stealing confidential information now?

The corporate world is going crazier every week with all these unhinged bosses who love to micromanage and pretend they have more power than they actually have. Before, times were simpler, and there were no Teams where they could check if you were working or if you got up to serve yourself some coffee. There weren’t these 1:1 meetings that had to be exactly one hour. If your boss needed to talk to you, they would go directly to your desk. And there weren’t these 2 a.m. emails requesting that you fill out a spreadsheet and acting as if it was a life-or-death situation.

When we see the level of cortisol workers have nowadays, and we compare it to the past, we realize that they have skyrocketed. All the changes that have happened, especially after 2020, have only managed to make us more anxious. We have created so many ways to control every second of our day, with no real impact on performance, instead of looking for ways workers can have a healthier lifestyle with work-life balance, which has actually shown improvements in performance.

So, are we using all these new methods to increase production or to tire workers so much that we do not realize how much we are really working? This Reddit story is just showing this really clearly. A manager micromanaging an employee and trying to pay him less than what he actually worked. Are we forever doomed to this exploitation, or do we have a way out of this insane corporate world? Is the case of this worker going to be repeated over and over till someone explodes? Are bosses going to get their way and save money for the company by treating the people below them unfairly? Is only legal action the way out, or are there still good managers out there?
