But buying a lottery ticket and letting the dream live for a day or two, every once in a while, is harmless. The reality is we know we’re not going to strike it big. And if we did come across some windfall of cash, it would probably come with some horrific catch. Like those memes where “You press the button and get a million dollars but some tragedy will befall you…” or something to that effect.
And it’s true, you’re probably never going to have a massive windfall of cash dropped in your lap without experiencing one of the worst events of your life thus far. Getting an insurance payout or an inheritance has a heavy cost implied with it that I don’t need to elaborate on; I think at this point you probably catch what I’m implying.
And when it comes to the question of inheritance, or any sum of money where family is involved, there is always the chance that, however the estate is handled and who gets what, could further cause rifts and shake the foundations of familial bonds.
Family members evaluate inheritance in different ways. Who got what? Was it more than they should have? Some family members won’t waste any time making sure that they got their cut. And this can cause complex issues as it has here.
