Warning: Reading the following content may be hazardous to your reputation, sanity, and Google analytics. Proceed with extreme caution.

YouTube creators are raging mad because OpenAI screwed them over big time – by using their videos to train chatbots without permission or even a courtesy “Hey, homie, can I haz some of your video data to whip up some AI magic?”

Class action lawsuit incoming! Apparently, David Millette, a disgruntled YouTube user, is the ringleader of this pack, backed by the law firm Bursor and Fisher. They’re seeking a ginormous $5 million in damages, a jury trial, and “Justice for the YouTube Creators (Who Got Screwed)! ”

Here’s the supposed crime: OpenAI allegedly cribbed millions of video transcripts to pump up their AI models, including “whispering” 1 million hours of YouTube videos (umm, shouldn’t that be public domain?) to train their genii (or whatever Geniuses are called after Google buys them).

Talk about data mining! Guess you could say OpenAI extracted those video clips like a digital Hoover with an insatiable craving for the world’s most epic napkins

Meanwhile, other so-called “generative AI” corporations (aka “data robbers”) are getting ready to take the stand, including Big Apple (Apple), Salesforce of Steel (Salesforce), Nokia Data Bandits (Nokia), and others who allegedly jacked thousands of YouTube videos for this swanky AI party It seems some of these companies realized the YouTube creators were gonna sue ’em, so – Oh no! – they returned the borrowed videos (with varying levels of honesty, of course).
Last year, Google, YouTube’s Mom (err, I mean, parent), conveniently broadened its terms to squeeze in some extra user data (for “generative” model training, duh). As they say in the AI world: Don’t ask questions, just delete ’em

OpenAI reps haven’t responded. Probably because they’re too busy figuring out how to sneak more training data onto their chatbots without their creator’s consent. After all, sharing ain’t caring, if you’re gonna get sued Laterz!
