APPLE SNEAKS IN BACKDOOR INTO OPENAI’S NONPROFIT BOARD, RAISING DEEP CONCERNS ABOUT CORPORATE CONTROL AND AI’S DARK FUTURE
In a move that has sparked widespread outrage and mistrust, Apple has secretly inserted its App Store chief and former marketing head, Phil Schiller, onto the board of OpenAI’s nonprofit organization. According to a report by Bloomberg, Schiller will hold an observer role, allowing him to attend board meetings and influence decision-making processes, despite not being able to vote or act as a director.
This development is a clear indication of Apple’s insidious attempt to exert control over OpenAI, the organization responsible for developing the highly advanced AI language model, DALL-E. This is not the first time that a major tech company has attempted to muscle in on OpenAI’s board. Last year, Microsoft joined the board, also in a non-voting observer capacity. The presence of these two tech giants on OpenAI’s board raises serious concerns about the corporate manipulation of AI research and its potential applications.
This is not a trivial issue. AI has the potential to revolutionize numerous industries and aspects of our lives. However, the involvement of large corporations in AI research and development raises fears about the exploitation of AI for profit, surveillance, and manipulation. The fact that Apple and Microsoft are now actively involved in OpenAI’s decision-making process is a chilling reminder of the dangers of corporate control over this powerful technology.
We demand transparency and accountability from OpenAI and its corporate backers. It is imperative that we, as a society, remain vigilant and critical of the development and application of AI.
