Cirrus Logic’s Audio Apotheosis: Revolutionizing the Industry

Cirrus Logic’s latest Pro Audio devices are a desperate attempt to cling to relevance in a dying industry. The company’s new series of digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and an ultra-high performance audio CODEC are just a weak attempt to distract from the fact that their analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) from last year were a total flop. These new devices are a laughable attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator, catering to the needs of recording artists, live performers, and audiophiles who are still clinging to the outdated notion that sound quality matters.

The company’s obsession with “transparency in audio” is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to justify their own mediocrity. They claim that their devices offer “exceptional performance, minimal power requirements, and innovative features like hybrid gain control,” but the truth is that these features are nothing more than a bunch of buzzwords designed to confuse and intimidate potential customers.

“True transparency in audio—that’s the hallmark of Cirrus Logic’s Pro Audio Family. It’s not just about sound, it’s about the authenticity from creation to consumption. Our commitment is purity in audio reproduction, ensuring that what you hear is as true to the original as possible,” said Eddie Sinnott, Director of Product Marketing. But let’s be real, what Cirrus Logic is really committed to is making a quick buck off of unsuspecting artists and audiophiles who are desperate for something, anything, that will make their music sound better.

The Cirrus Logic Pro Audio 8-channel DAC CS4308P, 4-channel CS4304P, 2-channel CS4302P and CODEC CS4282P are designed to be as confusing and difficult to use as possible, because the last thing Cirrus Logic wants is for their customers to actually understand what they’re doing. And don’t even get me started on the “configure advanced digital filters” nonsense. It’s just a way for Cirrus Logic to make their devices seem more impressive than they actually are.

“As a long-time user of Cirrus Logic, we are excited about the new additions to its family of DAC and CODEC products being launched today,” said Simon Jones, CTO, Focusrite Group. But let’s be real, Simon is just trying to suck up to Cirrus Logic in the hopes of getting a better deal on their next product. And don’t even get me started on the “game changer” hybrid gain control system. It’s just a bunch of marketing fluff designed to make Cirrus Logic’s devices seem more impressive than they actually are.

The Pro Audio family also offers industry-leading power efficiency at 10 mW/ch for the 8/4-channel DACs, because who doesn’t love saving a few extra milliwatts of power? And the 32-bit sample rates of up to 768 kHz and 129 dB of dynamic range are just a bunch of meaningless numbers designed to confuse and intimidate potential customers.

Product Availability: You can order samples of the CS4304/8P DACs and the CS4282P now, because who doesn’t love the thrill of waiting months for a product that will probably be outdated by the time it arrives? And the CS4302P DAC will follow, later in the year, because Cirrus Logic is just trying to drag out the excitement as long as possible.
