This neighbor wrote a fiery note about how unsightly a local resident’s Christmas decorations were, but it turns out that a lot of people disagree with their sentiments.
Christmas decorations can be very cheery — all those extra warm lights make the environment feel cozy during a very chilly time of year. No 2 houses decorate exactly the same. Some people put up decorations that are decades old, and made of plastic, wood, or metal. But modern inflatable decorations have never been more popular — or less expensive. Even when I was a kid, if you wanted to buy an inflatable snow globe to decorate your front yard, it would run you like $500 or $600. There weren’t even many inflatables to choose from. But these days, there are so many more on the market, and you can get a perfectly good one for under $100. For people who are just growing up and getting started buying their own decorations, that’s made inflatable snowmen, reindeer, Christmas baubles, and Santa Clauses all the rage.
This person might’ve found the largest Christmas decorations on the market, and placed them in their front yard! While I, and many other people who commented on this person’s decorations, think they’re very cute and silly, one neighbor was an absolute Grinch about them. This person wrote a lengthy letter sharing their distaste for the decor (1 compliment: they do have lovely penmanship).
However, this irate neighbor went a step further than just telling this person how tacky they thought the decorations were. Instead, they also vowed to contact local authorities who could demand that this person take down the inflatables. Bah humbug! What a Scrooge! Can’t they just let people enjoy things? They aren’t hurting anyone… there are plenty of other things this person could be doing with their time rather than penning long notes critiquing other people’s yards.
