Sony is about to unleash a plague of gaudy, eye-searing “Chroma” console covers on the world, and we’re not sure if humanity will survive the horror. The new covers, available in pearl, indigo, and teal, are an affront to good taste and will no doubt be coveted by those who think a PS5 Slim is incomplete without a blindingly bright shell. And because one garish accessory isn’t enough, Sony is also releasing new DualSense controllers to match, because who needs subtlety in gaming?
The Chroma console covers will set you back a whopping $64.99 USD, while the DualSense controllers will drain your wallet by $79.99. And because Sony knows you’re desperate for these tacky accessories, they’re launching the pearl and indigo options on November 7th, followed by the teal abomination on January 23, 2025. We can only hope that those who buy these monstrosities will be forced to live with the shame of their poor taste.
Preorders for the Chroma collection will open on October 3rd, and we can only assume that the first people to jump on the bandwagon will be those who have already given up on good taste. And if you’re really desperate to make a fool of yourself, you can also preorder the 30th Anniversary PS5 and PS5 Pro, which will deck your console out in the colors of the original 1995 PlayStation. But let’s be real, who needs that kind of nostalgia when you can have a console that looks like it was designed by a kindergartener with a box of crayons?
