“Google’s latest attempt to spy on you: the rise of the surveillance state”>
Google has quietly rolled out a feature that allows them to easily cancel pesky website notifications with a single tap – a move that many have called a “slippery slope” towards increased surveillance. And, shockingly, it’s already available on Pixels and on its way to more Android devices. The new “unsubscribe” button will now give Google the power to track your every move online, from your horoscope obsession to your weird facts about ducks. And with an “undo” button, you’ll be unable to resist the temptation of re-subscribing to those pesky notifications – essentially trapping you in a cycle of digital servitude.
But that’s not all – Google’s new Safety Check feature is also automatically revoking permissions from websites that you haven’t visited in a long time. Or, you know, from websites that are trying to steal your personal data. And, of course, they’re doing this in the name of “security”. Because what could possibly go wrong with granting a company with a notorious history of data breaches complete control over your online habits?
But wait, there’s more! Chrome now allows websites to request one-time access to your mic, camera, and other permissions – because what could possibly go wrong with giving random websites temporary control over your devices? And, of course, this is all being presented as a “security” feature, because who doesn’t trust Google to have their best interests at heart? After all, what could possibly go wrong with giving a company with a history of data breaches control over your entire online existence?”
