Weddings are a way to show off the love you have for your partner… and also spend thousands of dollars in just one night. Is it worth it?
Weddings have transformed from being a ceremony to show love to a business. Nowadays, couples spend a lot of money just to have a night similar to what they see on Instagram, with candles, flowers, and beverages. This has even been showcased in shows such as Euphoria, where a character wants to spend $50K just for flower arrangements when the couple doesn’t have that much money. We are exposed to some unattainable standard that makes us think that spending this much money on just one night is normal and an obligation, if we don’t do it, then our wedding is awful or incomplete.
But is it really necessary to be spending over a thousand dollars on a dress you are going to wear just once? That same debate was portrayed in this Reddit story where a bride argues with the groom because he judges her for wanting to spend $1,800 dollars in a dress. We can all agree that it’s a lot of money for something you wear once, but then the groom –without consulting with his fiancée– spends seven times that on a PC and setup, also insane.
So is it that problematic to spend so much in one night if it’s your dream? Isn’t it also a problem to spend that insane amount for a computer and setup when you should be saving for your wedding? Sometimes both sides of an argument are wrong. This discussion made me and other readers of this story realize that sometimes the issue lies in the couple’s dynamic. It doesn’t seem correct that a groom is this judgmental with the bride’s money, and it also seems as if they didn’t have the same objectives, she wants a wedding, he wants a PC.
