Illusion of Intelligence: How iPhone’s Newest Foe Outclasses Apple’s AI-Driven Camera

The Installment of Unhinged Enlightenment

Welcome, masochists and aficionados of chaos, to Installment No. 48, the weekly gathering of the most egregious and sublime crap the internet has to offer.

Return of the Renegade Reviewer

After a fortnight-long hiatus, I’m back, scarred and battle-hardened, to dispense my expert opinion on everything from smartphone cameras to 4K TV screens. During my absence, I’ve been abducted by aliens, forced to watch an endless loop of rom-coms, and still found time to devour three amazing books: "Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore" by Robin Sloan, "She Rides Shotgun" by Jordan Harper, and "The Wager" by David Grann. Oh, and I’m glad to be back, but those diaper changes were a real snooze-fest.

Sneak Peeks into My Wacky World

This week, I’m obsessed with:

  1. Halide’s Process Zero: Halide’s camera app is already my jam, but this new feature – stripped of all processing noise, giving you raw images that border on avant-garde art – has me in a frenzy of photographic abandon.
  2. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Foldable phone or not, this bad boy’s got the looks and brains to take on the world…and my wallet.
  3. Gemmuli Live: An artificial intelligence so advanced it makes me question my existence (kidding…or am I?)

Mailbag Madness

Your feedback, reviews, and rants are the lifeblood of my warped existence. Send me your hottest takes on the latest trends and obscure tech innovations.installer@theverge.com is where I spend most of my free time.

Gadgets and Gizmos Galore

What do we have in store for you?

  • Bigme Hibreak Smartphone: A black and white E Ink smartphone that’s not half bad…for those masochists who enjoy reaping what they sow.
  • Quick Journal: A text-only journaling app so simple, even I can’t screw it up.
  • Match Land: An ancient match-3 RPG game still haunting my dreams, seeking balance in a world of chaos.

Catch more of my ravings about:

  • Todoist: The day calendar view is, believe it or not, actually worth trying.
  • The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast: Cultural iconography, behind-the-scenes wizardry, and the occasional hint of utter madness.

Until next week’s installment of Installment… Stay weird, my friends.
