It’s hard not to feel bad for this employee, who was somehow warped into a false narrative created by her micromanager. No one wants to feel like they are the culprit and the reason why things aren’t going according to plan at work, especially when there is ample evidence to the contrary.
The employee knew for a fact that she was more than capable of doing her job well, but her manager’s insistence on doing everything for her was only going to feed into the narrative that she was incompetent. She had to fight back, and yet in doing so, was even further reprimanded for disobeying orders.
What else was she supposed to do?! Allow her manager to make her look bad? Anyone who makes a mistake should at least be afforded the opportunity to redeem themselves, but this manager refused to give the author that chance. As a result, the employee was now being put on a PIP, knowing that her days at the company were numbered.
