Good neighbors still need healthy boundaries…
Moving into a friendly neighborhood usually means building trust with the people next door, not worrying about strangers treating your yard like public property. One homeowner is struggling after their neighbor’s family, workers, and visitors began regularly cutting through the yard, gathering in the driveway, and riding ATVs across the property. Although the neighbor has always been kind, the escalating trespassing and reckless behavior have left the homeowner wondering how to protect their property without destroying an otherwise positive relationship.
So far, I’ve read multiple neighbors‘ stories, but this one is very different from the rest. When the homeowners purchased the property, I’m sure they were not aware that each property can be used freely, since none of them are fenced. As this person details, the next-door family lives very close to their home, and although this whole terrain should be residential, they do have a business running.
But besides that, the biggest issue has to be that there’s no limit to each one’s property. So that’s why everyone runs around and passes vehicles through the homeowner’s garden like it’s theirs, and because of the complicated layout, it would be hard to put up a fence… and also, if neither of the other families has one, maybe it would look weird.
Anyways… now the homeowner is very concerned about the safety aspect. Even though he doesn’t have kids yet, they are indeed planning to have a family in the future, and having those crazy teenagers running around on bikes and motor vehicles through his property is not something he’s thrilled about. He’s debating whether to install a fence and forget about the issue, or maybe have a polite conversation with the neighbors to see if they can find an agreement about each other’s property limits and their uses.
