BLOOD ON THE HIGHWAY: Another Life Stolen, a Province in Mourning as Carnage Continues

A man is DEAD and a dozen more are fighting for their lives. This is not just another accident. This is a SCENE OF CHAOS on a major national road, and it’s the second massacre on KZN roads in a week. The N3 near Pietermaritzburg turned into a horror show Sunday afternoon, the latest chapter in a gruesome pattern of violence on our roads.

Paramedics describe “TOTAL CHAOS.” A bakkie and a vehicle collided. The bakkie ROLLED, violently ejecting passengers onto the highway. The driver, a man in his forties, suffered major injuries and went into cardiac arrest as medics fought to save him. He died right there on the asphalt. Twelve others were raced to hospital. The call was so desperate, ambulances had to scream in from Durban Central.

But this is just the FRESH WOUND. Remember last week? Eleven people MURDERED on the R102 near Isipingo. The truck had WORN-OUT TYRES. The taxi was OVERLOADED, its driver’s permit EXPIRED. Transport MEC Sibiniso Duma saw the bodies laid out and called it what it is: He demanded the drivers be charged with MULTIPLE MURDERS. He accused the truck owners of prioritizing profit over lives.

Now, ask yourself: Who benefits from this silence? The companies running death traps? The officials who look the other way? This is a SYSTEMIC FAILURE playing out in blood and broken glass. Every detail—from the expired permits to the bald tyres—points not to accident, but to NEGLECT and GREED.

These aren’t tragedies. They are choices. And they are being made at the cost of YOUR family’s safety every single day.

How many more bodies will it take before someone is held truly accountable?
