Durov’s sudden about-face sparks controversy as Telegram’s exponential growth is revealed to have created a breeding ground for criminal activity.
He writes, “We invited criminals to the party by prioritizing growth over responsible platform management. And guess what? They took advantage of our negligence and filled our platform with illegal activities. Whoops, wrong move, Durov?”
Oh, and by the way, we’ve already updated our FAQ page to ensure users know how to play nice and report the icky stuff. It’s not like we’re getting desperate or anything… coincidence much?
Just a side note: our Wayback Machine friend caught us in a bit of a fib previously. It seems we said our chats were completely off-limits to our poor, abused moderators. False. We now claim users can report illegal content for us to magically make disappear. Magic, I guess?
