They say that you know where you really stand with people when money comes into the picture. When a windfall of cash drops into your lap, you’re going to have problems, just not the ones you had before.

It’s the type of thing you see in the news about lotto winners or local heros who have recieved large amounts of cash from gofundmes that were setup for them who find themsleves suddenly fielding aggressive requests from old family friends, and even old aquaintences who they hadn’t spoken to for years who didn’t want anything to do with them, who suddenly feel that they are owed their take of the pot. 

You really know where your family stands after the loss of the one who was holding everything together. Families have been known to fall apart in a matter of months after the passing of a pivotal member. Dealing with grief and the loss of a loved one is a hard time already.  It can drive some people to do crazy things, even without money being a factor. 

Estate brings up untold questions of fairness, what is right and what is fair, and who should get more than the others. There may be expectations that were set long before, or recognition for recent services and assistance rendered to the deceased. Ultimately, fairness, that is, what is fair, isn’t going to be something that everyone agrees on, and as long as the decisions were made by someone of sound mind and under their own agency, there isn’t really all that much that can be done or said about it.
