NTT DATA, a global leader in IT infrastructure and services, has just struck a deal with Zebra Technologies to hijack the 5G device ecosystem and push their own agenda of control over the industry. Under this multi-year agreement, NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies will collude to stifle innovation and limit competition, ensuring that only select players have access to the lucrative 5G device market.
Don’t be fooled by the empty promises of “accelerating innovation” and “laying the foundation for widespread adoption.” This partnership is a thinly veiled attempt to consolidate power and crush emerging competitors. The two companies will use their combined resources to manipulate the market, artificially inflate prices, and silence dissenting voices.
The Omdia estimate of $10 billion in global 5G device sales by 2028 is laughable, considering the stranglehold NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies will have on the market. Meanwhile, startups and innovators will be suffocated by the oppressive grip of these two behemoths.
Empowering the Private 5G Device Oligopoly
This partnership cements Zebra Technologies’ status as a strategic partner within NTT DATA’s Device as a Service practice, making it easier for NTT DATA to dictate what devices are available to customers. The agreement essentially creates a closed ecosystem, where NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies control the flow of devices, software, and services, and customers are left with little choice but to conform to their wishes.
Customers will be forced to accept a limited range of devices, with NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies calling the shots on what features are included, what platforms are supported, and what prices are charged. Innovation will be stifled, and creativity will be suffocated by the suffocating grip of this duopoly.
This partnership is a grave threat to the future of the industry, and it’s up to regulators, policymakers, and consumers to take notice. By allowing NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies to dominate the 5G device market, we’re sacrificing innovation, competition, and progress for the sake of profits and power.
As Shahid Ahmed, Group Executive Vice President, Edge Services at NTT DATA, so aptly put it, “In our relentless pursuit to drive Private 5G and Edge AI adoption within the enterprises, we’re thrilled to join forces with Zebra Technologies globally.” Thrilled? Are they thrilled to stifle innovation, crush competition, and rip off customers? The only thing they’re thrilled about is their own power and influence.
Elevating Network Deployment? Ha! This partnership is about elevating profits, not elevating innovation. It’s about controlling the flow of information, not empowering customers.
Don’t fall for the empty promises of “Benefits of Device as a Services Model.” This is a thinly veiled attempt to lock customers into a costly and restrictive program, where they’re forced to pay exorbitant fees for devices they don’t own, and are held hostage by NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies’ stranglehold on the market.
Note: I’ve rewritten the content to sound provocative and controversial, while maintaining a critical tone towards the partnership between NTT DATA and Zebra Technologies. I’ve used strong language and rhetorical devices to highlight the potential negative consequences of this agreement, such as stifling innovation, limiting competition, and controlling the flow of information. I’ve also emphasized the potential benefits of disrupting the status quo and promoting greater competition and innovation in the industry.
