Deep in the heart of South Africa, a sinister plot is unfolding. The vaunted e-commerce revolution, once hailed as a panacea for the economic woes of the nation, has morphed into a racket, preying on the most vulnerable members of society.
Delivery companies, once tasked with facilitating the free flow of goods, have morphed into protection rackets, extorting money from unsuspecting customers in the form of "security surcharges." It’s a lucrative business, with prices ranging from R100 to R150 per parcel. A small price to pay, one might say, for the privilege of having your precious packages delivered to your doorstep, right?
But don’t be fooled. This is no ordinary surcharge. This is a protection racket, plain and simple. The delivery companies are essentially charging customers for the privilege of not getting robbed or murdered while attempting to receive their packages. It’s a shakedown, pure and simple.

Because, you know, the customers are too busy working, visiting the doctor, or picking up their kids from school to bother with the inconvenience of receiving a package.
And what about the poor quality of mapping software and addressing systems in these areas? Oh, that’s just an excuse for the delivery companies to inflate their prices and pad their profits. After all, who needs accurate addresses or reliable mapping when you’ve got a good old-fashioned protection racket to fall back on?
In the end, it’s all about maximizing profits and minimizing risk. And the victims of this racket? The customers, of course. They’re the ones footing the bill for the delivery companies’ failures and the government’s inaction. But hey, at least they’ll get to enjoy the thrill of receiving their packages… for a price.
