WAYMO’S DEATH-DEFYING STUNT: SELF-DRIVING CAR RUNS RED LIGHT, CAREENS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND WALKS AWAY
A brazen Waymo autonomous vehicle was caught on camera running a red light and swerving into oncoming traffic in Phoenix, Arizona, leaving authorities stunned and questioning the company’s reckless disregard for human life.
The incident, which occurred on June 19, was captured on bodycam footage released by local media outlets, showing the vehicle weaving in and out of lanes before finally pulling over into a parking lot. But not before it had a heart-stopping moment of terror, as the car narrowly avoided a catastrophic collision.
And to make matters worse, the police officer who pulled over the vehicle was unable to issue a citation, thanks to the car’s "computer" – a clear indication that the autonomous system is more interested in dodging responsibility than taking responsibility for its actions.
Waymo’s excuse? The vehicle "encountered inconsistent construction signage" and "briefly entered an unoccupied oncoming lane of traffic." Oh, and it only occupied the lane for about 30 seconds before quickly scurrying back to safety. Well, isn’t that reassuring?
But don’t worry, folks – the Alphabet-owned robotaxi company has already taken steps to "recall" its software… twice this year. And if that’s not enough, federal regulators are also investigating the safety of its software, after nine more incidents were added to the investigation. So, yeah, everything is fine. rolls eyes
