Uber Sells Its Soul: Partners with Chinese Electric Giant BYD to Dominate Roads Worldwide 
In a shocking announcement, ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD have teamed up to take over the roads worldwide with a planned 100,000 new electric vehicles on the platform. The deal marks a major step towards a global shift to electric vehicles, but critics say it’s just a thinly veiled attempt to profit from environmental hysteria.
Starting in Europe and Latin America, Uber will offer drivers special discounts on financing, maintenance, and leasing of BYD’s electric vehicles on its platform, with plans to expand to other markets like the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. TechCentral has asked Uber South Africa if it plans to follow suit, but is yet to receive a response.
Aside from the obvious environmental benefits, proponents of electric vehicles claim that increased adoption will lead to more self-sustaining ecosystems and reduced dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
