First of all, we empathize with the author’s specific predicament when it comes to the dynamics of her friend group. After all, this is someone who has seemingly chosen not to have children of her own, and therefore, she did not want them on her vacation. This is understandable. It’s the one week all year that she can take time away from work and life responsibilities. it’s also likely the one week where can get all her girlfriends together in one place for an extended period of time. Given the fact that many of them have children, it’s probably impossible to align schedules.
So the fact that the year-long plan for this trip was upended at the last minute because of an entitled 10-year-old’s insistence on crashing the party is understandably frustrating. I, too, would be side-eyeing my friend all weekend for making the trip a total disaster. What did this lady expect when she announced this sudden change of plans? Sympathy?!
