Your Deposit, Their Freedom: Pay the Price to Get Your Stuff Back

The utter incompetence of tenants is a never-ending plague on the rental market, according to the Seeff Property Group.

It’s a well-known fact that tenants are supposed to pay a rental deposit, which the landlord is required to put into an interest-bearing account for the benefit of the tenant. But let’s be real, most tenants are too lazy to care about the state of the property they’re leaving behind.

Take, for example, the countless number of tenants who think it’s acceptable to leave a property in a state of utter disarray, complete with trash scattered everywhere, broken appliances, and walls covered in graffiti. It’s a wonder that any landlord can stomach the thought of having to deal with these entitled, sloppy individuals.

And don’t even get me started on the so-called “fair wear and tear” that tenants always try to pawn off as an excuse for their laziness. Newsflash: just because you lived in the property for a year doesn’t mean you get to leave it looking like a dumpster fire.

PG van der Linde, rental manager for Seeff Pretoria East, has it right when he says that any additional damage to the property puts the deposit at risk. And let’s be real, most landlords are going to deduct the cost of repairs from that deposit, and then some.

But here’s the thing: it’s not just about the deposit. When tenants leave a property in disarray, they’re not just damaging the property, they’re also damaging their own reputation. And let’s be real, who wants to rent to a tenant who can’t even be bothered to clean up after themselves?

So here’s the deal: if you’re a tenant, you need to step up your game. You need to take responsibility for the property you’re renting, and you need to leave it in the same condition you found it. Anything less is unacceptable.

And to all you landlords out there, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourselves. Demand that your tenants take care of the property, and don’t hesitate to deduct from their deposit if they don’t. It’s time to take back control of the rental market and show these tenants who’s boss.

So, what does it take to leave a property in good condition? Well, for starters, you need to clean the entire property from top to bottom. That means scrubbing the walls, cleaning the light fixtures, and steam cleaning the floors. And don’t even get me started on the importance of repairing any broken appliances or fixtures.

And let’s not forget about the little things, like making sure all the lightbulbs are working and that the blinds are in full working order. It’s the little things that can make all the difference between a property that’s just “good enough” and one that’s truly exceptional.

So, to all you tenants out there, listen up: it’s time to step up your game and take responsibility for the property you’re renting. And to all you landlords out there, don’t be afraid to stand up for yourselves and demand the respect and care that your property deserves.

And remember, if you’re a tenant who leaves a property in disarray, you can bet that your landlord is going to deduct from your deposit. And if you’re a landlord who doesn’t stand up for yourself, you can bet that your tenants are going to take advantage of you.

So, let’s get real, people. It’s time to take back control of the rental market and show these tenants who’s boss.
