I understand how feeling exposed like this can create an immediate defensive response. It’s hard to be confronted with something you feel you are lacking. In the moment, you might act defensively, but I think with time and by talking about it, one can express one’s own shame and maybe ask for help to solve it. Especially if the sister has no problem with paying in the first place. I even think confronting her wasn’t that bad; it brought the subject to light; now that that’s done, I think it would be better to bring it up again and offer help. Managing finances doesn’t come easily to everyone, and the responsible sister can help the other, even more so, because she understands, firsthand, where both of them come from.
