Some people get pretty anxious about traveling, but they express it in different ways, and I can’t help but wonder if the brother is one of those people.
He’s like, perma-grumpy for the entire trip. And he’s 21 years old. He’s not a baby, he doesn’t have to go with the family. He could plan his own trips, gather up his pals and hit the road. He doesn’t have to rely on Mom and Dad to take him around the world, but for some reason, that’s the path he’s choosing.
His sister is just seeing what’s right in plain view!
The brother has literally said he thinks its a waste of money to travel. Even though the parents might not like it, perhaps the brother would rather put that money towards a car or some local hobbies rather than going to Paris or Brazil. Not everyone enjoys traveling, and this family just needs to get on the same page about that.
I think everyone will be a lot happier if the family trip isn’t mandatory. The parents are so upset that the brother found some reason, any reason, to change plans. He’s just going to continue that pattern. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a family vacation where the sister and both parents want to be there, and where the brother isn’t forced to be somewhere he doesn’t wish to be? They just need to think a little bit differently about this, and hopefully they’ll all be a lot happier on their next trip.
