This person is unhappy about the folks in their vicinity who simply “don’t care at all about their neighbors.” That’s tough! It’s hard to live around people who seemingly don’t care at all about the people around them, whether they’re disturbing the peace with loud music, or demolishing lawns like they’ll grow back overnight. Like, I understand why people are self-centered, but it’s so unpleasant to live around people who will trash their own streets. Hello?! You have to live on the same exact street you are ruining!
As a resident who’s living in a corner lot, they’re already facing an uphill battle. The neighbors next door seem keen to transform their yard, whether that current resident likes it or not. This person explains that in their first months of living there, the neighbors removed trees and bushes, disrupting the local wildlife. Why? Oh, they thought that part of the yard was theirs. How convenient that they waited for a shift in apartment ownership before making such a big move! Almost like they thought they could get away with it, since a new resident might not realize what they were doing. This isn’t the same as moving like, a rock or something. When you fell a bunch of trees and shrubs, every critter living inside now has to flee and find somewhere else to live. That tree can’t be replanted into the same spot once it’s been demolished and uprooted. It’s just a changed landscape. And that’s just one of the reasons this person is so disturbed by their neighbor’s recent choices.
One funny aspect of the story is a language barrier issue. The neighbors seem hesitant to speak English, which could’ve been a huge communication issue… if it wasn’t the middle of the 2020s. We have technology that solves this! You don’t need a translation book or something — you can instantly Google Translate any phrase at any time. There are even some apps (albeit still in beta phases) that can instantly translate both sides of a conversation.
