EXCLUSIVE: South Africa’s IT System Under Siege as Insidious Employee Sabotage Epidemic Spreads
A startling new report reveals that South African chief information security officers (CISOs) are scrambling to contain a growing crisis of IT sabotage perpetrated by employees. The shocking survey, conducted by ITWeb, has uncovered a disturbing trend: 6% of respondents have recently experienced intentional IT sabotage within their organizations.
Dr. Nkosi Kumalo, General Manager of MTN Converged Solutions, revealed the alarmingly high rate of employee-enacted sabotage at the ITWeb Security Summit CISO Banquet 2024. "We never thought we’d see the day when our own employees would turn against us. It’s a wake-up call," he warned.
The survey, which has garnered 77 responses from local CISOs, has also exposed a staggering statistic: 63% of respondents have reported being breached in the last 12 months, with phishing and social engineering accounting for the majority of incidents.
This brazen betrayal of trust within the corporate world has left many feeling vulnerable and unsure of how to effectively protect their organizations. "How do you trust your employees when they’re potentially the greatest threat to your security?" a CISO lamented.
