It’s interesting that the kid was so against something so easy. It’s probably a half-decent workout, something that a lot of teens are into. And this person notes that there were “a lot” of teens there, so this was also a social opportunity with memories to be made.
Yet this teen seemed have literally no interest at all in doing this. A lack of motivation is fine, understandable even. But you just have to do hard things in life sometimes. You just have to try your best.
Even if the kid stuck around and just aimlessly picked up one or two pieces of trash per minute, he still could’ve weaseled his way into a completed shift. Nope! Instead, and he and Mom snuck off and got a coffee, and that’s after he showed up late. Sheesh.
Now, he’s learned a lesson, and apparently his Mom did, too. No doubt they thought that he’d get lost in the shuffle of kids and could just earn himself a participation prize. Nope. There are consequences for actions round these parts.
At least this is a very easy “sentence” for the kiddo to serve. Next time, he can show up on time at 9 AM, stay til noon, and still have a full weekend day ahead of him.
