It’s about time someone took on the behemoth that is Live Nation-Ticketmaster. And by “someone”, we mean the Department of Justice, which recently filed a blistering lawsuit alleging that the ticketing giant is a de facto monopolist, exploiting its massive market share for its own profits. And now, the 39-state coalition of state attorneys general and the District of Columbia are piling on, leveling fresh accusations of anticompetitive shenanigans.
Let’s be real, Live Nation-Ticketmaster has been strangling the life out of the ticketing industry for far too long. It’s their stranglehold on ticket sales and venue bookings that has perpetuated astronomical prices, limited transparency, and soulless customer experiences. And don’t even get us started on the infamous botched Taylor Swift ticket rollout, which left countless fans enraged and feeling like chumps.
