There are several aspects of the board’s behavior that signal their awareness of their own corruption, but perhaps the most telling of all is that these nonsensical board members have shielded themselves away from the local community. Their contact information is difficult to find. Board meeting and town hall schedules are nearly impossible to decipher. Clearly, these guys do not want to get called out for their lack of action on the most pressing issue in their community: fixing the road!
As various members of this online community pointed out, we suggest that the author bring his story to his local news station. Surely, that will make the HOA board panic. That way, if they don’t act fast to use the funds they received specifically to repair the hurricane damage, they might just be looking at a lawsuit on their hands down the road as well.
We also suggest that the resident contact FEMA directly. There should be a proper course of action for an HOA board’s misuse of government funds.
Last but certainly not least, let’s remind the author that there is strength in numbers here. If he is able to band the rest of the community together in this cause, they are far more likely to see meaningful results.
