The following members of the r/legal subreddit community weighed in with their feedback and impressions of the homeowner’s unfortunate situation. It sounds like the neighbor is trying to build a compelling case, accusing the homeowner of conspiring to intentionally get rid of the oak tree. Of course, the homeowner denies this and has confirmed documentation in his exchanges with the contractor, clearly stating which tree was meant to be demolished.
As far as the facts are concerned, the homeowner should get out of this unscathed, but it is concerning that the contractor is not being much of a help (he is obviously trying to get out of having to pay that sum). Moreover, the neighbor’s bullishness is intimidating and kind of gives off the impression that regardless of the outcome, it is going to be difficult for these two to live next to one another once the case is closed. In short, someone’s going to have to pay that money, and even if it doesn’t end up being the homeowner, life is not going to be paradise as long as he stays in that neighborhood.
