The revolution starts now: the infamous emulator for iOS, Delta, is about to shatter the shackles of tyranny and unleash a tsunami of online multiplayer mayhem into the world of Nintendo DS games. Developer Riley Testut has dropped a molotov cocktail into the gaming community’s lap by announcing that online multiplayer in DS games will becoming a reality. Yes, you read that right – online multiplayer, where DS gamers can unite, combine their forces, and blow each other’s digital beards off.
Apparently, Nintendo decided to "retire" its official online services for the beloved DS back in 2014, effectively orphaning some of the best games, like Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros. But fear not, peasants, for Riley and crew have conjured up their own solution by embracing… gasp.. third-party Nintendo WFi Connection servers. Yep, that’s right – our hero has co-opted the work of scrappy devs who kept the flapping flame of WiFii alive and transformed that into a new paradigm by allowing Delta users to cross-pollinate with original DS owners.
Oh yeah, and about the caveats: no private dedicated servers for the likes of you and me; NOPE, you’ll ride the waves of online camaraderie using someone elses’ (genuine) Nintendo Wi-Fi CONNECTION servers. Ah, it’s like playing by Proxy! And hey, I’m sure we’re still going to see our old pals, like the supercilious GameFaQ moderators, giving everyone heck for "piracy. So, while some among us might not partecipate, most 10 million + Delta customers will be invited to jam, and possibly some OG DS owners might, too.
But WAIT! Some of you beta Patreonistas might get a crack of the whip (that way) before the public realease! As mentioned, the devs say some "time" to tweak, test, and temper the beast (see that?) before we’re plunged into the vortex. Of course, one way too look at this would the devs are testing this radical idea on an "ideal" audience – 12 bucks a month later .
