See, when you’re desperate to find a place to stop your vehicle for a little while and not actually parking or getting out of your car, you get a bit less careful about what constitutes a parking space. It becomes more about “am I blocking the flow of traffic and getting honked at or not” as you sit somewhat wearily in your vehicle waiting for a knock at your window by a parking official or police telling you to move along. Still, you’re confident that you can talk your way out of a ticket, or simply drive off if necessary, and you need somewhere to stop, so that dotted yellow line on the curb will have to do.

I’m sure a great many of us have done this while waiting for a friend outside their city apartment or while picking up our partner from work, or even, as luck would have it, our kids from school.

But when you live around somewhere that is causing this to happen frequently, let alone every day, like a school, it can become maddening, as navigating the log-jam of SUVs and minivans that fills the streets keeps you from getting where you need to quickly. But schools and businesses that are responsible for these things to happen are usually permitted or licensed for doing what they’re doing. Your neighbor’s backyard daycare, however, might not be.

So do you have to tolerate parked-up parents and wayward vehicles blocking the streets and even your driveway?

This was the issue that was called into question when it came to this homeowner’s experience of dealing with their neighbor’s home daycare. Parents routinely park across and even go as far as parking in their driveway, and are even leaving their vehicles there while they go inside to get their young children.

This has made them late to work three times while they were stuck waiting for a parent to move their vehicle. But the problem is, the minute or two that they are parked there isn’t nearly long enough to get a tow truck on the way or even get ticketed by parking enforcement. The whole thing has left them wondering just what can be done about the situation and led them to share their story with an online community asking for advice.
