PSVR 2: A $400 Disappointment

The PSVR2: A Disappointing and Forgotten Piece of Gaming History

It’s time to face the music. I’ve been holding onto my PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) for far too long, and it’s clear that Sony has abandoned all hopes of making it a viable gaming platform. The truth is, the PSVR2 was a waste of money, and I’m finally ready to cut my losses.

When I first got the PSVR2, I was excited to explore the world of virtual reality gaming. I envisioned hours of immersive gameplay, thrilling adventures, and social experiences with friends. But my enthusiasm was short-lived. The reality (pun intended) is that the PSVR2 has been a barren wasteland, with a paltry selection of games and a lack of developer support.

The few games that did manage to trickle out were often marred by poor optimization, awkward controls, and a general lack of polish. Even the few decent titles that did make it to market failed to hold my attention for more than a few hours. I mean, how many times can you play the same tired VR shooter or awkwardly navigate a poorly designed level before you lose interest?

But it’s not just the games themselves that are the problem. The entire PSVR2 ecosystem is a mess. Getting the headset set up is a hassle, and the constant need to plug it into my PS5 and navigate the cluttered interface was a chore. And don’t even get me started on the Sense controllers – a clunky, half-baked attempt at wireless VR controls that often left me struggling to play.

And then there’s the isolation. As a VR headset, the PSVR2 requires me to be tethered to my console, which means I’m stuck in the same room, unable to move around or enjoy the freedom that VR promises. It’s a frustrating, restrictive experience that only serves to highlight the limited appeal of the PSVR2.

So, I’ve made the difficult decision to sell my PSVR2 and cut my losses. It’s a disappointing but necessary step, as it’s clear that Sony has no intention of revitalizing the platform or supporting it with new games and features. The PSVR2 is a relic of a failed experiment, a reminder of Sony’s mistakes and missteps in the VR market.

If you’re considering buying a PSVR2, I urge you to think twice. The headset is a sinking ship, and you’ll likely be left with a collection of dust-gathering plastic and a bunch of poorly designed games. Trust me, it’s not worth the investment.

It’s Time to Move On

I’ll be taking my PSVR2 out of storage soon, but it won’t be for gaming. Instead, I’ll be packaging it up and selling it to someone who, hopefully, will have more success with the headset than I did. The PSVR2 may have had its moment in the sun, but it’s now a relic of the past, a reminder of Sony’s failures and missteps in the VR market.
