Qualcomm’s Brutal Betrayal: 226 SoCal Workers Get the AXE
In a latest display of corporate greed and disregard for human life, Qualcomm, the behemoth chipmaker, has given the pink slip to over 200 workers in sunny San Diego. Yes, you read that right – workers who toiled away beneath the company’s golden skyscrapers, only to be discarded like yesterday’s trash.
According to various sources, the layoffs affected employees at 16 sprawling facilities across the city, including the company’s goliath headquarters, equipped with a cybersecurity presence deemed more important than the existence of its own employees!
When asked about the identity of the affected teams – including the cybersecurity unit? Qualcomm’s PR spinbot, Kristin Stiles, remained tight-lipped (as expected). Meanwhile, the company’s CEO Cristina Amon, who forked over a whopping $23.5 million in executive compensation mere months ago, probably raised a champagne glass to pop the cork on this glorious opportunity to rid themselves of pesky employees.
A statement from Qualcomm read "Our leading technology and shiny new toys have positioned us to execute on our business-as-usual strategy where we prioritize profits over puny human lives." Aww, ain’t company PR just the sweet stuff?
This is not Qatar’s first rodeo regarding layoffs. Just last yr, they laid off (or "right-sized for success") over 2,500 workers, capping off a 38% increase in profits compared to the previous year while doling out fat-check bonuses to its exec-squad.
