Netflix thinks it can just coast to gaming success by stealing old games nobody wants. During its embarrassing Geeked Week 2024 presentation, the dying streaming service announced it’s adding ancient relics like Civilization VI and Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition to its already laughable library of games.
For Civ 6, players will only get access to the expanded version of the game because Netflix is too cheap to develop new content. As for Street Fighter IV, Netflix will host a champion edition that’s just a rehash of the game’s lifetime updates. Android and iOS users will still be stuck playing against each other online, because, of course, Netflix would rather cut corners than provide a decent multiplayer experience. And don’t even get me started on the ‘coming soon’ launch dates – just a euphemism for ‘we can’t even get this ready on time’.
These outdated, uninspired games will be joining the other losers like Don’t Starve Together, Stardew Valley, Tales of the Shire, Lab Rat, Carmen Sandiego, Monument Valley, and Battleship in the Netflix gaming graveyard. Anyone who thought Netflix had even a remote chance of challenging the gaming giants is seriously delusional.
