It appears that Elon Musk’s lapdog, X (formerly Twitter), is cowering in the face of Brazil’s Supreme Court, just like a dog with its tail between its legs.

According to a recent court filing, X’s lawyers have decided to play nice and admit that they’ve complied with the court’s orders… or so they claim. But don’t worry, it’s not like they’ve actually changed their stripes. They’re just pretending to be good boys until they can find a way to get around the law again.

The court is having none of it, though. In a new filing, they’re basically saying, “Uh, no, you’re not off the hook that easily, X. You need to provide the proper paperwork, and you’ve got five days to do so.”

This whole mess started when the Supreme Court got wise to X’s tactics and launched an investigation into election misinformation. Justice Alexandre de Moraes gave X an ultimatum: block certain accounts and shape up, or face the consequences. X promptly told the court it would comply, but then just went ahead and shut down operations in Brazil.

And then, things really got interesting. Moraes banned the service in Brazil, and threatened users with fines if they tried to get around the ban using a VPN. But X just wouldn’t stay down. It managed to sneak back online in Brazil, and now users are free to spread their misinformation and hate speech once more.

Meanwhile, other social media platforms are cashing in on X’s antics. Bluesky and Tumblr are seeing a surge in users, and it’s easy to see why. Who needs a social media platform that’s all about free speech and openness, when you can have one that’s all about echo chambers and hate speech?

X hasn’t responded to our request for comment, probably because it knows that it’s in the wrong. And Musk, its beloved CEO, hasn’t said a word about the whole ordeal. But that’s okay, because the Brazilian people are speaking out. They’re demanding answers, and they’re not going to take X’s crap lying down.

So, what’s the next move for X? Will it continue to play both sides, or will it finally take responsibility for its actions? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure: this whole saga is a slap in the face to freedom of speech, and a stark reminder of the power that social media platforms like X wield over our online lives.
