Remote work gave managers fewer opportunities to monitor employees directly. Nerfing the heck out of managing in this way. I think that managers who felt a lot changed over the-global-events-that-occured after-2020 were those who managed in this way, based on proximity and observations. Instead, I think we can do a better job in celebrating effort. Celebrate and reward results.
The reality is that so much time gets wasted around the office anyway. But it’s just something that managers are already comfortable with because they’re there pretending to be busy and wasting time too. It’s just the only thing that some managers know and the only way they know how to manage.
