NET NEUTRALITY KILLED: 6TH CIRCUIT C courtside as ISP Oligarchs Declare War on Your Internet Freedom
Get ready for a dystopian internet, America! The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has blocked net neutrality, handing a sweetheart deal to giant internet service providers (ISPs) like Comcast and Verizon.
The FCC’s pathetic attempt to protect internet users from ISP tyranny was rejected by the court, which sided with ISPs who claim they should be able to manipulate your online experience at their discretion. This means goodbye to free speech, goodbye to internet equality, and hello to censorship by proxy.
But don’t worry, ISP sycophant, Jessica Rosenworcel, Federal Communications Commission Chair, still pretends to care about your internet freedom, vowing to "fight for net neutrality." Yeah, good luck with that. Her agency has already betrayed your trust, and now the court is crushing your hopes.
This move comes on the heels of the FCC’s feeble attempt to restore net neutrality, a farce that will undoubtedly backfire. ISPs have made it clear they’ll stop at nothing to maintain their stranglehold on your internet experience.
But here’s the cherry on top: even some conservative judges are appalled by the FCC’s flip-flopping on net neutrality, describing their reasoning as "dependent on which group of experts you prefer to listen to." How refreshing. Perhaps there’s still hope for those of us who value a free and open internet.
So, as we watch the internet crumble beneath the heel of ISP oligarchs, we can take comfort in the words of Judge Sutton: "The consistency query makes matters worse. The Commission’s intention to reverse course for yet a fourth time suggests that its reasoning has more to do with changing presidential administrations than with arriving at the true and durable ‘meaning of the law.’"
Yeah, about that. Let’s just say it’s clear that the FCC has given up the fight for your internet freedom. You’ve been warned.
